So this week I finished the first draft of No Soul, No Service. I guess this technically would be a third draft as the original story was 12323 words. The the next major revision was 27066. Then I named it and really went to town finally getting it to 51,124 words. Talk about an increase! I guess I’ll call it the first big ass draft! What started as a short story that was more of a quick pantser idea has turned into so much more.
So, where do I go from here? Great question!
Right now I’m getting the bible updated. I added quite a few things and instead of being smart and updating the bible at the time I didn’t.
I plan to give No Soul another quick pass and clean and tighten a few things up. Then the scary part. Betas. I’m going to see about recruiting a handful of beta-readers to go through it a few chapters at a time, take their feedback, and revise again. My ultimate goal to get this into a tight and concise story before I start to go for a series edit.
I’ll need a cover as well. I’ve got a few ideas I’m kicking around but so far if you were to ask me I’d look at you with a blank stare. Don’t judge me – the fact that I have selected a title speaks volumes!
This process is probably going to go on for a couple of months. I’m finalizing the format that I’d like my beta’s to use and then I’ll put out the call. I have a couple of people interested but if you would like to be a beta please drop me a line. If you didn’t know I’m working on an Urban Fantasy story that deals with a lot of things. It does have some harsh language and that might turn some people off. It might also turn some people on. Your mileage may vary.
In future news I’ve also started to plot a new story. This will probably be my Nano project for this year. I’m also still getting the overarching story line together and have quite a few ideas for future stories. It’s exciting and scary especially now that I’ve set a deadline for first publication and I’m about to share some of this with other people.
Also I know I’ve been bad about not posting regularly. I’m going to try and get back to that every Sunday. Drop me a line on Facebook or Twitter!
